Catherine Golding meets ‘Francis’ – young, slim and in great condition – a real character, who she is keen to introduce…
Well, this is a first for me. Being asked to describe to you the delights of ‘Francis’. Let me introduce Francis. ‘Francis’ is a beautiful 57ft, traditional Stern narrowboat, which is moored at Wenlock Basin, Wharf Road in N1 and is on the market with fyfe mcdade.
Wenlock Basin is a secure residential mooring on the Regent’s Canal and it’s home to this extremely luxurious, high-specification narrow boat called Francis. Francis would be perfect as a pied-à-terre, London holiday home or ‘liveaboard’.
It is in great condition: built in 1999 and newly refitted to a very high standard in 2017 it has new features throughout. In that year its superstructure and decks were professionally painted, the hull blacked and the Shire engine serviced. It also holds a full safety certificate, which is valid until 2022.
Entered from either end the boat has an engine room, spacious bedroom with double bed, wardrobes and cupboards all built-in. Next there is a newly-fitted bathroom with bathtub and overhead shower. This leads on to the open-plan living space – which features a new reception/dining area with bespoke sapele bookshelves, radiators throughout, a traditional log burner – and finally on to the newly-tiled Fired Earth kitchen with four-ring gas hob, electric oven and fridge freezer.
So why not take the bull by the horns and try a different way of living while still having the hustle and bustle of the city on your doorstep – if boats have doorsteps?
Well, I was pleased to meet Francis and as you can see there’s plenty to like – why not come aboard and see for yourself.
